Follow probably the most interesting character of the period in Mary Delorme's latest novel. Meticulously researched as befits a writer for History Today, yet without the feel of a history lesson!
Chapuys was an avid writer of letters home and to the Emperor Charles V. Especial Amigo is based on that correspondence to paint an accurate portrait of life under a medieval tyrant, a man whose supreme greatness and omnipotence (in his own eyes!) left him blind to the fact that he was outplayed every step of the way, by just one man.

Ms. Delorme has a great talent for entertaining while educating, a tall order for historical fiction authors. Many fail and the reader feels they are being bounced in and out of the story while the author intrudes with historical facts. That never happens in Especial Amigo.
Once again, she has written about a lesser known historical character, brought him to life, given him depth and endeared him to the reader.
Recommended for those who are interested in the Tudor period particularly during the Henry VIII reign.
